We're pleased to present you with the February issue of The Fourth R Newsletter. This edition features another ten great shortcuts for use on the Internet and a special discount offer.

We also take a look at one of the new offerings from Microsoft. Windows 8 and RT are the latest operating systems to be released from the Microsoft camp.

Windows 8 and RT
 
 

Windows 8 has a new front end interface (Metro) that is geared for touch. The desktop is still there albeit without the handy Start button. However, third party installs are available if you want the Start button (and all its benefits) back.

It takes some time to get use to the new style of Windows 8 (a little like changing over from Office 2003 to 2010). Tablets use an RT version that has reduced functionality in comparison to Windows 8. It is worth the time and effort to do some research on the limitations of the RT system before running out to get Microsoft's accompanying Surface tablet.

To counteract the emergence of tablets, some computer manufacturers have produced convertible laptops that double as a tablet. Whilst this can have its obvious advantages, it is important to mention that for smaller screen resolutions, buttons may be harder to select on the new operating system. A stylus may be a necessity to reduce unnecessary frustration.
