Microsoft Office - Publisher

This month we take a look at five tips and tricks that you can use with Microsoft Publisher.

Tip 1 - Use Baselines to line up text

The Baseline tool provides a guideline for aligning text. The effect is similar to lined paper.

Step 1: Tick the Baselines box in the Show group of the View tab.

Tip 2 - Duplicate content to multiple pages instantly

Publisher provides template options through Masters. The operation acts in a similar nature to Masters in PowerPoint.

Step 1: Select the Master Page button in the Views group of the View tab.
Step 2: Add elements to the Master page/s that should appear on standard pages.
Step 3: Select the Apply To button in the Master Page group of the Master Page tab and apply the appropriate options.
Step 4: Close the Master Page tab and view the changes applied to the document pages.

Tip 3 - Perfect Position and Size

The Measurement box can be used to refine the exact size and position of objects (e.g. text boxes, images etc.) used in a Publisher document.

Step 1: Select the Object Size button in the bottom left area of the Publisher document window (Tip: It has the XY symbol on it)
Step 2: Insert a Picture or Text box on the current page.
Step 3: Move the object on the page and observe the changes in the Measurement Dialog box.

Tip 4 - Commercial Printing

Set up your document for commercial printers.

Step 1: Select File, Save & Send.
Step 2: Click on Save for a Commercial Printer.
Step 3: Select the required options for the print job.
Step 4. Click on the Pack and Go Wizard .

Tip 5 - Create a PDF Document.

You may have a need to save a file in a more secured universal format. PDF (Portable Document Format) is the current standard. Adobe PDF reader is a free tool that can enable users to open a PDF based Publisher document without the requirement of having the Publisher application.

Step 1: Select File, Save & Send.
Step 2: Click on Create PDF/XPS Document.
Step 3: Click on the Create PDF/XPS button.
Step 4: Name the file and select Publish.
